Asian Market Cafe - Fairmont Singapore

Upon hearing they are HALAL since 30 Sept 2010,I always want to try the food. Since I am celebrating my fiance's birthday, its a good oppurtunity not be missed. Where is place I talking about?

Yeah.... Asian Market Cafe is situated at Fairmount Singapore. Please make reservation in advance as they are fully book eversince they received the HALAL cert.

We reached at 6pm and was amazed with the short tour presented by their staff. He showed  us the variety corner such as sushi corner, raw food corner, dessert corner and some other corners. They even have live freshly cooked prata and grilling area by their chef. After the tour, we are directed to our seat no 31.

Without any delays, we choose our picks. Definitely, our first choice is sushi. They have severals type of sushi and sashimi. My fiance simply loves the freshness and juicy sashimi.

Our next stop, is the live grilled seafood section. The grilled stringray is a killer. The sambal is non-spicy and the fish is soft and tender. They also served freshly grilled chicken satay and mutton satay with thick peanut sauce. It would great if beef satay is one of choices.
I was suprised to find chilli crab in the menu. I have never seen chilli crab in any buffet corners before. The chilli crab was not up to my expectation. The crab was overcooked and the sauce is more of tomato taste instead of chilli. The bread was over fried too.
Next try,the nyonya laksa. We customer have a try of making the laksa ourselves. The corner was place with boiling pots for us customer to cook the laksa noodle. The laksa gravy is thick.Simply another dish for me to enjoy.
Next dish is either the roasted chicken or duck. Since we both are not a fan of duckies, definately chicken will be our choice. The chicken was not too crispy as it is already cold. The sauce was bland too. No harm trying though.

Last dish before we head for dessert, is the prata. We have the choice of plain, egg or banana prata. The prata skin is a bit thick. Feels like munching a rubber band. Oh my, the curry is cook in chinese style. No indian fish or chicken curry. I do not feel the prata taste without the indian style curry. The chef was nice. He keeps me entertain while waiting for the prata to cook.

The second last stop, the desert corner. They have variety of deserts. One of it is ice kacang. My favourite is the logan and strawberry with almond jelly. The slacking part is no chocolate desert except for chocolate ice-cream. I was expecting chocolate cake or chocolate mousse. To my dissapointment, there is no chocolaties in the desert menu.

I end up the night with a cup of teh tarik. It definitely smoothe down my bloated tummy. The taste is perfect and the temperature is just nice to sip slowly.
What is the end verdict?

Atmosphere : 4 / 5
Service        : 5 / 5
Taste           : 3 / 5
Variety        : 4 / 5

The price ($55++) for a dinner buffet is afforable. Definitely, I will recommend you all to give it a try. Next, I want to try the hi-tea buffet. Hopefully there will more chocolate deserts.
